Amy is a Nebraska attorney providing legal representation to families of children with disabilities in special education matters. Amy is a summa cum laude graduate of Creighton University School of Law, where she was a member of the board of editors of the Creighton Law Review. She is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Nebraska.
Amy is also a proud parent of children with developmental disabilities. She completed a ten-month traineeship in disability advocacy and leadership at the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center, where her research focus was on parental advocacy in special education.
In addition to providing advocacy at IEP meetings, Amy has helped her clients obtain publicly-funded independent educational evaluations and has successfully represented clients in due process settlements, in state complaints, and in the IDEA manifestation determination review process. She provides ongoing guidance to parents as they navigate the special education process on behalf of their children.
Amy has also been a presenter on special education legal issues at conferences before audiences of lawyers, child welfare professionals, mental health professionals, and families of children with disabilities. She authored the article "Special Education Law for the General Attorney: Know the Basics to Ensure the Best for Your Clients" in The Nebraska Lawyer.
Additionally, Amy serves as a consulting attorney for the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA), a leading national organization that protects the legal and civil rights of children with disabilities and their families. She works in support of COPAA's Amicus, Litigation, and Attorney committee work.
Amy has also worked as a college adjunct instructor for over a decade at institutions including Creighton University School of Law, Bellevue University, and Metropolitan Community College.
As a law student, Amy was an intern with the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska and was inducted into Creighton's chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, an honor society recognizing scholarship, loyalty, and service. As a third year law student, she was the recipient of the James L. Koley Scholarship in Constitutional Law.
In addition to her law degree, Amy holds a B.A. in English from Oglethorpe University and an M.A. in English from the University of Pittsburgh.
Amy is an active member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) and has completed COPAA's three-month attorney training course in special education law.
She is also a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and the Military Spouse J.D. Network.
Amy is a parent member of the Nebraska Special Education Advisory Council and of her district's Early Childhood Planning Region Team. She has served on the Legislative and Advocacy Committee of the Nebraska Council on Developmental Disabilities.
